St John's boasts spectacular gardens and award-winning facilities. 

Set on the banks of the river Cam, St John's is home to the world-famous Bridge of Sighs, one of Cambridge's most recognisable and picturesque landmarks. St John's offers:

  • single en suite bedrooms

The bedrooms at St John's provide you with an authentic student experience. These rooms are uncarpeted. 

There are no accessible rooms available and access to the historic Wordsworth Room, used for formal Friday dinners, is via a narrow staircase.

Check-in is via the Porters’ Lodge on Northampton Street.

Dining

St John's self-service dinners and breakfasts are provided in the newly refurbished, design award-winning, Buttery. Tables seat 2-6 people.

On Fridays, the College also provides a served formal dinner in the 450-year-old Wordsworth Room where William Wordsworth stayed during his time at the College in the 18th century. Due to the historic nature, there is no air conditioning in the Wordsworth Room.

College history

St John's College was founded in 1511 and is one of the largest Colleges in Cambridge. Its former students include Nobel Prize winners, Prime Ministers, scientists, artists, and leaders in business and industry. The great Chapel was built in 1863-69. 

Over the 500 years since the College was founded it has become one of the largest Colleges in Cambridge. Before the College was founded the site housed the Hospital of St John, monastic community.
