Biography

Marianne Lipp is currently a PhD researcher in Architecture at the University of Cambridge, where her work focuses on advancing circularity and reducing waste in the construction sector.

Alongside her doctoral research, she teaches at Polytechnique Montréal, where she supervises engineering and architecture students in designing buildings from a sustainability perspective. Her teaching includes guiding teams in designing projects grounded in real-world cases, such as work on the development of the Louvain Est eco-district in Montréal, a major urban redevelopment focused on sustainable design, community wellbeing, and climate resilience. She also serves as a co-supervisor in an integrated design studio at the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Planning, where she supports interdisciplinary teams in developing architectural design proposals that minimize environmental impacts and apply circular design strategies.

From 2023–2024, Marianne was a member of the Sustainable Development Subcommittee at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), participating in the development and implementation of the university’s 2023–2026 Sustainable Development Action Plan. She also served as President of Tributerre, overseeing projects aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the campus.  Marianne also worked as a project manager (2022–2023), where she led building energy-efficiency initiatives and greenhouse gas reduction assessments conducted in collaboration with the Government of Québec.

Her teaching style emphasizes collaboration and small-group work in which students discuss real examples or participate in problem-solving workshops inspired by sustainability challenges. Marianne aims to create an inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to question assumptions and build practical skills for addressing today’s environmental and societal challenges.
