Biography
I am a General Medical Practitioner and a member of the senior deanery team at the School of Clinical Medicine. I have a particular interest in supporting educators in healthcare settings and I lead the Clinical School Staff development programme, and the PG Cert component of the master’s level programmes at University of Cambridge Professional and Continuing Education, which is regularly oversubscribed.
I am primarily a clinician with over 30 years of experience, working initially as a hospital physician before moving into primary care in 1988. As a full-time GP I arranged local GP education for established doctors, and trained GP trainees until 2019.
I led on setting the primary care teaching for the Graduate Course in medicine in Cambridge and later became Deputy Director.
I developed a greater interest in medical education, completed an MA in Medical Education, and regularly taught undergraduates, graduates and other healthcare professionals. I was awarded the University of Cambridge Pilkington Prize for excellence in teaching in 2014.
I joined the Deanery team at the School of Clinical Medicine after completing my MA and have since led staff development.
I am a Director of Studies and Tutor on the Graduate Course in Medicine and Fellow at Wolfson College. I continue to teach students weekly and have co-led several courses for medical educators in South Asia.
I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Royal College of General practitioners and hold Membership of the Royal College of Physicians.
