Understanding finance: foundations and practical application

This highly interactive discussion-based course offers an introduction to money and capital, cash flows and forecasting, financial reporting, interest and return, and risk management. We will investigate how businesses are valued, and how our external investors view their investments into our company. We will discuss practical applications including intangible assets, valuation multiples, discounted cash flow, market and book values, debt capital markets and loan markets, equity shareholder capital markets and private equity. The course is particularly beneficial for people studying finance or accounting, running or planning to run their own business, interacting with finance specialists, or planning to become one. This is a 10-session course and must be taken with W310Pm01 in Week 3.
