Why do some sustainability innovations gain momentum while others fizzle out? This course investigates the social dimensions of technological change surrounding sustainability transition. It examines how stakeholder perceptions, trust, and cultural values affect the acceptance of low carbon technologies such as renewables, carbon capture and storage, and nature-based solutions. We will explore global and local examples of contested projects and design deliberative strategies for engaging key stakeholders including governments, industry, civil society, and national and local publics. Through a mix of lectures, discussions, and collaborative exercises, you will develop the skills to analyse and address social barriers to accelerating sustainability transitions.
