Iris Murdoch: philosophy and fiction

We shall evaluate the moral philosophy of Iris Murdoch (1919-99) through a close examination of the central themes in Murdoch’s philosophical writing, and through a close reading of some of her award-winning fiction. This course looks at Murdoch’s philosophical influences and style, her view of the relationship between philosophy and literature, and her version of Platonism.
