Investigating Impressionism and beyond

Avant-garde art in 19th-century Paris was marked by a vibrant exchange of ideas, with artists drawing inspiration from a rapidly changing urban environment. Our exploration will include paintings, pastel works and prints by a range of artists including Berthe Morisot, Georges Seurat and Suzanne Valadon which reveal intriguing socio-historical insights into the complex experience of city life, seen through bold brushwork, daring perspectives and a keen observation of contemporary society. One session will be based in the Fitzwilliam Museum. This is a 10-session course and must be taken with W310Pm53 in Week 3.
