Fossils and the history of life

In this wide-ranging introduction, we see how fossils get preserved, sometimes in surprising detail, and study various aspects of evolution as seen in the geological record. The course covers four billion years of organisms on Earth; from microbes, through extinct groups such as trilobites, dinosaurs, and mammoths to the present biosphere. The course includes an opportunity to handle some fine real fossils.
