For Barbara, a Law and International Relations student with a passion for global perspectives, the University of Cambridge International Summer Programme opened the door to a world of knowledge and connection, that exceeded every expectation.
“I’d heard stories from former students who described the experience as both academically rigorous and socially enriching,” she said. “I knew I wanted to deepen my understanding of my field while surrounding myself with equally passionate, like-minded people.”
From the moment she arrived in Cambridge, Barbara was inspired. The lectures, both course-specific and plenary, stretched her thinking and introduced new dimensions to her studies. “The teaching is at the very highest level,” she said. “I’ve attended sessions on human psychology, poetry, even Stonehenge, topics I wouldn’t normally encounter in my degree programme.”
Barbara found the academic experience not only illuminating, but transformative. “It’s helped me grow in every direction,” she said. “Academically and professionally, my interests have expanded. Personally, I’ve become more well-rounded by engaging with an extraordinary mix of people from all over the world. The exchange of ideas and perspectives was unforgettable.”
The intellectual stimulation was matched by the beauty of Cambridge itself. “There’s something magical about being on campus,” Barbara said. “The architecture, the history, the atmosphere - it adds so much to the experience.”
Her advice to future students is simple: be curious and be bold. “Pick courses that excite you or explore new territory,” she said. “And don’t forget to wander, there’s so much to discover beyond the classroom.”
As for the programme itself? “Fascinating, riveting, enriching, exciting, and a must-do,” she said.
